A succession certificate is issued by a civil court under the Succession Act 1925 and specifically authorizes heirs to:

• Transfer shares, bonds, and other movable financial assets.

Unlike a legal heir certificate, a succession certificate requires a formal petition to the court, publication of notice, and a waiting period for objections before it is granted.

The bank correctly refused, because banks require a succession certificate from the civil court to release funds — a legal heir certificate alone does not authorize access to movable assets.
